Juvenile Players from Connacht were in attendance at the Leinster Autumn Open 2011 last
weekend in Terenure Badminton Centre. Players competed in U12, U14 and U16 events over
the two days.

U16 Boys:
First out on Saturday were James Poole (Newport BC) and John Finnegan (Ballinamore BC)
in the U16 events. Both players lost their first singles matches in close fought games, John in
a three set match against Paul Reynolds and James to Nhat Nguyen. James lost the semi-final
of the Plate and John lost in the final.
In the doubles, there was a small entry, but the matches played were of the highest quality.
James and John beat Craig Byrne and Satchel Madden in straight sets (21-16, 21-13) and lost
in a belter of a match against Paul Reynolds and Sam McKay (17-21, 21-18, 17-21). Paul
and Sam won the doubles with James and John coming in a close fought second.

U12 Boys:
Adam McAllister (Ballaghaderreen BC) kicked off Sunday morning to a good start winning
all his group matches to reach the final with Des Duggan. This was a tough game with Adam
winning out in the end (21-13, 25-23).

U14 Boys:
Ben Gallagher-Lynch (Ballaghaderreen BC) lost his first singles match to Nhat Nguyen, but
went on to beat Maurice Molloy in the Plate final (30-22).
Ben and Adam teamed up together for the U14 Boys Doubles where one again the entry was
quite small. They narrowly lost out in a cracker of a game to Ryan Kelly and Patrick Martin
(21-18, 17-21, 19-21) that went on to win the doubles.

It was a good outing for the Connacht lads, who are improving with every match. Our
juveniles are well able to compete with the competition and this should encourage more
players to participate in these competitions.
