A Welcome Note!

Following the development of the High Performance carding system Jonathan Dolan (Sligo) and David Walsh (Ballina)  have been classified as High Performance players within the Region of Connaught. I have been appointed the High Performance Coach for these 2 players. I would like to thank Daniel Magee who was the coach before me in a great job he has done with the players and developing them as badminton players.
I was very pleased to have been asked to coach the two boys as they are very talented, hard working and dedicated players who have to right goals in regards to the level they want to develop, and be playing at on a regualr basis, which is Internationally.
I would like to outline the requirements that are needed to train at a High Performance level and the dedication in which David and Jonny want to develop as badminton players. In total the players have 7-8 training session per week, each session lasting 2 hours. 2-3 of these training sessions are morning training before school, starting at 6:45am. The remainder of theses trainings are in the evening. Within these training sessions the majority of training is on court, however 1 training session is a Conditioning training and another is a strength training session. The boys have adapted excellently to this new training regime and their dedication has been superb. David Walsh travels from Ballina to each training session which is a 60min drive, this just outlines the dedication that he has.
I am extremely happy with the Boys since I have taken over as their coach and we are continuing to work hard on and off the court to constantly improve.
The High performance centre is based at Sligo Tennis Club, and will be the main area in which I will be working from.
I will also be working 4-6 hours per week for Connaught Branch with the Elite development group and the Development group, in an effort to develop our up and coming players to a National and hopefully International standard.
I will also be continually updating the Connaught Website with tournament results, training notifications and a general overview of how the players are developing.
I would like to take this opportunity to Thank all the people, parents and players who have helped me settle into my new role. It is very much appreciated.
